The state of insecurity in Palestinian society is ongoing, manifested in the killing of citizens and the damage to private properties and public facilities in Khan Younis over the last 72 hours.
At approximately 4:50pm on February 25th, according to Al Mezan fieldworkers, 62- year- old Youssef Al Aaraj, was stabbed and killed inside the Great Mosque of Khan Younis.
This incident is unrelated to the family feud.
At approximately 2pm on February 23rd, Mahmoud Abu Hadaid, 32, was killed whilst driving his car in Maan area south of Khan Younis following a family dispute.
According to the Center's fieldworkers, a group of armed persons attacked and partially damaged Nasser Hospital and Khan Younis Municipality last week.
In a similar incident, early morning on February 24th, a group of citizens attacked Balsam Military Hospital near Al Awda towers in north Gaza area, partially damaging the building.
The Center's fieldworkers reported that a group of citizens protested against delays to send the ambulance to rescue an injured person in a family dispute; the director of the hospital had asserted the availability of only one ambulance to transport urgent medical cases to other hospitals.
Al Mezan hereby expresses its profound sorrow and regret upon the loss of citizens and the damaging of public facilities; it also condemns the escalating lawlessness and the PNA inability to undertake effective procedures to halt this situation.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights thus calls upon the PNA to immediately take practical steps to put an end to the state of insecurity, impose the law in Khan Younis and throughout the Gaza Strip, and prevent frequent attacks on public facilities and personal properties.
Further, The PNA must exterminate all forms of non- official arms on the Palestinian street to ensure security and stability.
