A group of masked men attacked Palestinian legislator Ashraf Jum'a, who represents Fatah faction in Rafah District, and his guards yesterday.
They also opened gunfire inside his office.
According to testimonies given to Al Mezan by eyewitnesses, the incident took place at approximately 8.
10pm Monday 23 July 2007.
A group of about 45 masked armed men were seen attacking Jum’a’s office and beating him with the backs of their rifles.
He sustained wounds in his head and bruises in his body.
They opened fire inside his office, which is located near the Al Brazil neighborhood in the town of Rafah.
Eleven of his guards the office staff were injured; including the office manager, Usama Al Taweel, who was shot in the left leg.
Al Mezan Center strongly condemns this attack, which targeted an elected parliamentarian.
Al Mezan calls on the Attorney General to initiate an investigation into this attack and to bring those who ordered and/or perpetrated it to justice.
