At 6:30pm on Wednesday, 5 September 2018, an explosion broke out in the office of the explosives engineering unit of the general directorate of police in west Gaza city. Abdulrahim Abbas, 38, was lethally injured by shrapnel that hit him in various parts of his body. The Ministry of Interior issued a press release stating that “an accidental explosion broke out in the office of the explosives engineering unit of the general directorate of police in west Gaza (the Jawazat) in the evening of Wednesday, 5 September 2018. The explosion was caused by burning of explosives under examination.”
