At 3pm on Sunday, 7 October 2018, a group of Palestinians joining a set-in near Erez crossing assaulted Dr. Kamal Al-Sharafi, the Palestinian President’s Advisor for Human Rights and President of Al-Aqsa University. The assailants were employees whose salaries were cut by the Palestinian Authority. Documentation by Al Mezan Center for Human Rights shows that Dr. Al-Sharafi was on his way back to the Gaza Strip along with a delegation from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education through the Erez crossing when the group assaulted him and the delegation. “They tried to intercept my way and damage the car, and they chanted profanity,” Dr. Al-Sharafi said. No casualties were reported.
