At 7:10pm on Saturday, 5 May 2018, an explosion followed by fire breakout took place in Al Zawayda in the Middle Area district. Six members of the Palestinian resistance were killed, and three others sustained moderate burns. The nine casualties were taken to Shuhada Al Aqsa Hospital, where doctors said the six arrived as burned shreds and were dead, and they referred the other three to Al Shifa Hospital. Partial damage was also caused to a number of houses near the place of the explosion. The police and security apparatus arrived to the place after the incident. The reasons behind the explosion remain unknown.
