At 2:00pm on Friday, 16 March 2018, Israeli forces located on the eastern borders of Jabalia refugee camp and the northern borders of Beit Hanoun city and Beit Lahia city, in North Gaza governorate, opened fire and tear-gassed hundreds of children and young adult protesters joining popular demonstrations. Called for by various Palestinian factions, the demonstrations were held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Israeli soldiers opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at protesters, causing the injury of ten protesters, including six children. Doctors at the Indonesia Hospital and Beit Hanoun Hospital reported that injuries ranged from moderate to serious, with seven casualties wounded by bullets and the remaining three wounded by tear-gas canisters, both in various parts of their bodies. Other protesters affected by tear-gas were treated in the field. Confrontations continued until the evening of the same day.
