At 2p.m. on Friday, 23 March 2018, Israeli forces located on the eastern borders of Khan Younis opened fire at tens of adults and children joining demonstrations to the east of Abasan Al Kabeera, Abasan Al Jadida towns, and Al Qarara area, in eastern Khan Younis. The demonstrations were held in protest of the latest U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Palestinian protesters set tires on fire and threw stones at Israeli forces, which responded with fire and tear-gas, causing moderate wounds to Amro Rajaa Abu Shawish, a 26-year old Palestinian. Abu Shawish was taken to the European Gaza Hospital for treatment. A number of other protesters were affected by Israeli intensive use of tear-gas.
