IOF Opens Fire and Injures Two at a Peaceful Protest at Erez Crossing

At approximately 15:30 on Friday, 1 April 2016, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stationed at the northern border, opened fire and launched tear gas canisters at young men and children who were taking part in a protest against the Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the West Bank at Erez crossing in North Gaza district. Clashes between protesters and the IOF lasted until 21:00. As a result, two Palestinian were injured: ‘Ahed Nasser Mohammed Al-Za’aneen, 22, resident of Beit Hanoun, sustained a head injury caused by a tear gas canister; and Bassem Ramzi Issa Al-Habl, 21, resident of Beit Lahia, was hit by a gas canister directly in his face. Medical sources at the Indonesian Hospital described Al-Zaa’neen’s injury as minor while it referred Bassem Al-Habl to Eye Specialty Hospital in Gaza city to receive further treatment.
