At 2:00pm on Friday, 23 March 2018, Israeli forces opened fire and tear-gassed hundreds of children and young adult protesters joining a demonstration in eastern Shujayya to the east of Gaza city. The demonstration, called for by various Palestinian factions, was held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Three protesters, including two children, were injured in different parts of their body as Israeli forces kept shooting; their injuries ranged from moderate to serious, as reported by doctors at Al Shifa Hospital. One sustained wounds by live ammunition in his left leg. Many other protesters were affected by the tear gas and received the necessary medical care in the field. Shooting continued until the evening on the same day.
