IOF Opens Fire at Palestinian Peaceful Protestors at Erez Crossing; Six Persons  Injured

At approximately 2:30 pm on Friday, 15 January 2016, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire and launched tear gas canisters at a popularity event in solidarity with Jerusalem. The protest included young men and children who were near  Erez crossing in North Gaza district. Clashes between the Israeli soldiers and Palestinian protestors continued until 5:30 pm on the same day. As a result,  six people were injured including two children. Al Mezan’s identified their names as follows:

  • Omran Ali Nemr Zaqoul, 17;
  • Mohammed Bassan Abdelmajid Al Ajjouri, 15; both of them were directly hit by a gas canister at their heads;
  • Abdel Raahim Hussein Mohammed Al Awawda, 51, sustained a rubber-coated bullet wound in his left leg;
  • Ibrahim Khaled Mamhoud Al Talouli, 24, sustained a rubber-coated bullet wound in his right leg; they are all residents of Jabaliya refugee camp;
  • Ali ‘Aref Mohammed Abu O’da, 25, sustained a rubber-coated bullet wound in his lip; he’s resident of Beit Hanoun; and
  • Jebreel Ra’fat Jebreel Al Kahlout, 18, sustained a rubber-coated bullet wound in his right leg; he’s resident of Beit Lahiya.

Medical sources at the Indonesian Hospital described their injuries as minor.
