At approximately 7:30pm on Saturday 1 January 2011, the police arrested Ghassan Khalil Abu Naser, 28, and Shadi Fouad Abdullah Diab, 28, in Beit Lahyia town, in North Gaza district.
According to Al Mezan's field investigations, the police arrested the two men while they were sitting in front of their houses in the Al-Mashrou' neighborhood in the town.
The police physically assaulted the two and took them to the Beit Lahyia police station.
These two persons are known for their affiliation with Fatah movement.
At approximately 6am on Sunday 2 January 2011, Abu Naser was admitted to Kamal Odwan Hospital.
He suffered from fractures in his right leg and shoulder and bruises in different parts of the body.
The arrest came after Diab used firework in his house in celebration of the 46th anniversary of Fatah movement.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Abu Naser said that while he was sitting near his house door, he saw fireworks coming from his neighbor's house, which belongs to Shadi Diab.
He added that few minutes later the police arrived at the area and detained Shadi.
Abu Naser said he asked the police members why he was arrested, but they beat him.
He tried to avoid the beating, but was surprised when the police members continued to beat him and forced him with his neighbor into a police car.
They then took the two neighbors to an open, dark area in the nearby Beit Hanoun town.
The police beat the two with their rifles, cudgels, and hands.
People gathered and the police took the two men to the Beit Lahyia police station.
The police also beat Diab several times.
He suffered from severe pain and passed out.
At approximately 5am on the next day, Diab woke up to find himself at Kamal Odwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya.
Diab knew that the police told the doctors that Diab fell from the police car.
Diab told the doctors the truth.
Doctors made plaster to Diab's right leg, then, the police took him to the police station.
After that the police took Diab to Balsam Hospital in Beit Hanoun where doctors fortified the plaster on his leg.
Then Diab arrived at his house in an ambulance.
