A 53-year-old prison inmate was pronounced dead at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Wednesday morning, 22 July 2020. The hospital’s report shows that the deceased had suffered a heart attack, and had a history of chronic diseases, namely, hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, which required surgical intervention on 16 July 2020 to undergo cardiac catheterization and stenting procedure.
The deceased was an inmate at Khan Younis Prison and had reportedly received medical treatment at Gaza European and Nasser Hospitals multiple times before his death on Wednesday. His body was then transferred to the Forensic Department at Nasser Hospital, which identified the heart attack as the cause of death and stated that the body showed no signs of bruising or abrasions.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior announced the inmate’s death on Wednesday morning, and confirmed that the deceased had been receiving medical treatment following a cardiac catheterization and stenting procedure at Gaza European Hospital. The Ministry added that the deceased had been imprisoned since 2013 and was on death row as he had been convicted of collaborating with Israel.
