According to Al Mezan observers and based on polling station statistics, voter participation in the Gaza Strip is increasing: voter participation in Gaza districts has exceeded 65%; however, there has been a continuation of electoral campaigns outside polling stations.
Al Mezan is satisfied with the proceedings of the voting process which is going smoothly with the exception of few violations that were reported to the CEC.
Al Mezan has accordingly contacted the CEC regional office in Gaza to put an end to violations recorded and listed below:
Electoral campaigns were continued outside polling stations in the five electoral districts of Gaza
PNA vehicles were used for electoral campaigns
Shooting took place in front of polling stations in Khan Younis, Rafah and Beit Hanoun
Clashes broke out between supporters of competing electoral lists; this led to the closure of one polling station temporarily out of 254 polling stations, and the closure of fours polling booths out of 988 for a short period.
Further, fighting took place in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, Bani Seela in Khan Younis, Gaza and Rafah.
Thus, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights emphasizes that the voting process is thus far being conducted smoothly and calmly with very few violations in comparison with previous elections; Al Mezan also calls upon the CEC to halt all forms of electoral campaigns especially those in front of polling stations.
Furthermore, Al Mezan believes that the few coming hours will show higher still numbers of voter participation and expects the voting process to remain calm.
