At approximately 07:00 pm on Saturday, 29 October 2016, Israeli gunboats opened sporadic fire at Palestinian fishing boats which were off Al Sahte’ refugee camp, northwest Gaza city. The shooting continued until the next day, 30 October 2016. As a result, at approximately 2:00 am on the same day, the fisherman Rami Sami Bakr, 39, resident of Al Shate’ refugee camp, sustained fractures in his right leg. According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the Israeli gunboats were chasing Bakr when he fell down from his boat and he was injured. Bakr was about 3 nautical miles away west of Al Shate’ coast when the Israeli boats were chasing him.
