At approximately 7:15 pm on Monday, 19 September 2016, Israeli gunboats opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats which were off the coast of Al Waha area western Beit Lahiya in North Gaza district. As a result, Ahmed Mohammed Zayed, 32, sustained shrapnel wound in his abdomen. Medical sources at the Indonesian Hospital described his injury as critical. He was entered the surgery department and then he was referred to the intensive care unit. According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the Israeli gunboat shot fire directly towards the fishing boat owned by Zayed, while he was about one and a half nautical mile away from borders, and two miles deep in the sea. The boat was damaged and the fisherman was admitted to the hospital. The other fishermen who were in the area abandoned their work for the day.
