On Thursday, July 4th 2013, at approximately 8:30 pm, Iyad Abu Fanouna, 30, former prisoner and hunger striker, was forcibly transferred by Israeli authorities to the Gaza Strip on a ten-year deportation.

Fanounawas detained for 35 years in Israel and was released under the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal.
According to Al Mezan documentations, Fanouna was imprisoned again in 2012, and after his recent hunger strike, the decision was made to deport Fanouna to Gaza.
In Gaza, Fanouna was welcomed by the Ministry of Detainees and Ex- Detainees Affairs, and the Waed Captive and Liberation Society.
