On Thursday 29 November 2012, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Foundation organized a training workshop entitled “Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights and the Right to Form Unions and Associations” held at As-Salam restaurant in Gaza City.
31 journalists attended the workshop.
Mrs.
Shirin Ash-Shobaki, Coordinator of Training and Mass Communication Unit at Al Mezan, opened the workshop by thanking the participants for their attendance and interest in the course.
Mrs.
Ash-Shobaki emphasized the importance of the workshop and its content in order to disseminate human rights’ values and concepts among Palestinians.
She also presented the plan of the workshop and its objectives.
Moreover, Ash-Shobaki highlighted Al Mezan’s role in the protection and defense of human rights in the Gaza Strip and explained the role of Al Mezan’s units in helping victims of human rights violations.
She also emphasized the role of journalists in providing redress for human rights victims.
Dr.
Bassam Abu Hasheesh delivered the first session which included an introduction to human rights, the International Bill of Human Rights, and a case study about the right to establish unions and associations.
The workshop is part of a larger program entitled, “Enhancing Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights,” implemented by Al Mezan in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
