Published: 20:00 Gaza Time (+2 GMT) The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued its attacks on Gaza, targeting numerous civilian objects for the fifth day.
Al Mezan Centre for Human Rightsmonitoring of the situation on the ground indicates that IOF attack civilian target and rush to claim they have a military character; therefore justifying further attacks on the civilian population and infrastructure.
IOF targets have included houses with residents inside them, civilian vehicles, farmers, public institutions, such as the office of civil affairs at the Ministry of Interior, and media offices.
These deliberate attacks have claimed dozens of civilians lives.
They represent grave breaches of the rules of international humanitarian law and must be condemned and stopped immediately.
According to Al Mezan’smonitoring, since the start of theIOF aggression on 14 November 2012, by the time this press release was issued at 8 pm on 19 November 2012, at least 103 Palestinians have been killed by IOF attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Of those, 21 were children and 12 women.
Another 730 people were injured, including 230 children and 126 women.
At least 597 houses have also been damaged or destroyed, including 48 that were destroyed completely; including 34 houses that were directly attacked.
Of those 34 houses, 22 were deliberately targeted by direct IOF attacks using the roof-knocking tactic.
Another 135 houses sustain serious damages.
Of most concern are IOF’s continuing direct attacks on houses.
At approximately 7:30 pm today, 19 November 2012, IOF warplanes bombarded an asbestos-roofed house in Jabalia refugee camp.
The house is owned by FuadHijazi, 46, who was killed with his two children, Mohammed, 2, and Suhaib, 4.
All of the rest of the 7 members of the family were injured in the attack; including the mother, Amneh, 43, who sustained critical wounds.
Another 13 neighbors were injured; most of whom were children and women, and 2 of them were injured critically.
The family house was completely destroyed and several neighboring houses were damaged.
In another attack at 4:20 pm on 19 November 2012, the IOF launched an airstrike on a media office for the Islamic Jihad Movement, which is located in first floor of the Al-Shorouq apartment building in Gaza city.
As a result, one person from the office was killed – Ramiz Harb, 34 -, the office was completely destroyed, and several media offices in the building were damaged.
Four other people were injured lightly; including two photographers: Ahmed Al-Rozi, who works with Al Arabiya Space Channel, and Mohammed Al-Ashqar, who works with the Al-Quds Satellite Channel.
Al Mezan strongly condemns the IOF violations of human rights and IHL.
Al Mezan notes that as the time passes, the IOF attacks tend to violate international law.
Attacks on civilians and civilian objects represent grave breaches of IHL that amount to war crimes.
Such attacks have claimed dozens of civilian lives during the past days; including women and children.
Al Mezan reiterates its deploring of international community’s failure to stop IOF aggression and the serious breaches of IHL they entail.
Al Mezan calls on international community to intervene and provide protection for civilians under Israeli control and attack in Gaza.
Grave violations of IHL and gross violations of human rights which have been on-going for years must be investigated and punished.
It is Palestinian most vulnerable civilians who are bearing the brunt of both the attacks and the impunity violators enjoy under the continued failure to stop or punish the violations against them.
