The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have again escalated their attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Israeli aircraft launched five airstrikes on various targets throughout the Gaza Strip, one of which killed an elderly man.
Also as a result of these strikes, a cattle farm and a residential house were totally destroyed.
A number of adjacent houses sustained partial damages.
According to field investigations by the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, at approximately 11:55 pm on Saturday 11 February 2012, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile targeting a cattle farm east of the car market in Az-Zaitoun neighborhood, Gaza City.
As a result, Abdel Kareem Ibrahim Az-Zaitouniya, 72, was killed.
He was from Ad-Daraj neighborhood and worked as a guard at the farm.
The guard room was destroyed in the attack, which left a large hole in the earth; Az-Zaitouniya was found dead under the rubble; residents had to use a bulldozer to unearth him.
Mohammed Az-Zaitouniya, 22, who was visiting his father, sustained bruises.
The asbestos-roofed farm, which is owned by Iyad Abdel Hadi Rajab, 43, was destroyed.
11 sheep, nine cows, and 60 poultry birds were killed.
An adjacent house sustained partial damaged in the attack.
In a separate incident, at approximately 11:50 pm on Saturday 11 February 2012, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at an agricultural field belonging to the Faraj family east of Gaza City.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
At approximately 11:30 pm on the same day, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a greenhouse located in the Abu Khashan neighborhood east of Al Qarrara village in Khan Younis.
The greenhouse was destroyed as a result, but no casualties or injuries were reported.
At approximately 11:10 pm on the same day, Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at the house of Mousa Jumaa’ ‘Iyada At-Tir, 71, located near the An-Nahda neighborhood in Ash-Shoka village, about one kilometer away from the separation fence, east of Rafah.
As a result, a tin-roofed room about 42 square meters in area was totally destroyed.
The room was used by Mousa and his wife as a house.
The adjacent home of Jihad Mousa At-Tir, 44, sustained partial damages.
The house is about 120 square meters in area and hosts seven family members.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
It should be noted that the smaller house had been targeted before.
At approximately 1:15 am on Friday 3 February 2012, Tamam Salama At-Tir, the wife of Jihad At-Tir, received a phone call telling her to evacuate the house.
Tamam, her husband, their children, and the family of her father-in-law left the house.
Ten minutes after the phone call, Israeli aircraft attacked the tin-roofed home.
The members of the At-Tir family were about 50 meters away from the house when the Israeli aircraft attacked it.
The IOF did not warn the At-Tir family before attacking the house the second time.
The elderly At-Tir couple were sleeping at the house of their son for fear of Israeli attack.
In a separate incident, at approximately 11:45 am on Saturday 11 February 2012, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at an open area in Ash-Shoka village, northeast of Rafah in the vicinity of the Sofa crossing, east of the separation fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns these Israeli attacks, which resulted in the killing of one person and injury to civilians.
Al Mezan reiterates its previous calls on the international community to promptly intervene to stop Israel’s violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law.
Al Mezan stresses the importance of bringing an end to the culture of immunity surrounding violations of human rights and IHL in the occupied Palestinian territory.
