Short Link:
A series of European newspaper cartoons depicting and insulting the Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon Him), have caused widespread anger in the Muslim world and sparked fierce debates which are harming the image of Muslims and of Islam.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the insults of prophet Mohammad (P.
B.
U.
H), and asserts that the publication of the cartoons contradicts standards of human rights and democracy, which call for respect of religious convictions.
Al Mezan stresses that insulting the Prophet Mohammad cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression, when such freedom abuses religion and convictions, instigates hatred and contradicts with high values, human rights standards, and respect for others.
Furthermore, Al Mezan Center believes that the reaction to such abuse should be framed within the Arab and Islamic culture and dignified human values.
Whilst Al Mezan condemns any forms of abuse or insults of the Prophet Mohammad (P.
B.
U.
H), it expresses its disapproval of all non-peaceful protests by targeting European representatives and Palestinian properties; such actions are harming the reputation of Muslims and tarnishing the image of their civilization.
In this respect, Al Mezan highlights that anger should not lead to disregard of honorable services conducted by Europeans who are promoting and exposing the civilized image of Arab and Islamic culture.
Thus, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights calls upon the European countries to take serious steps in order to stop offenses against Islam, to preserve Muslim dignity, and respect all religions and cultures; Al Mezan also demands the use of use peaceful and civilized as a means to reject insults of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon Him) and Islam.
