At approximately 10:30 am on Saturday, 30 January 2016, Israeli gunboats opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats which were in the Gaza sea north and west of Al Waha area- near the maritime borders- west of Beit Lahiya in North Gaza district. No injuries were reported but fishermen were terrified and abandoned their work and sailed to land immediately.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, fishermen positioned in Beit Lahiya sea looking for the fisherman Hamdi Khadr As-Sultan, 26, who fall down in the sea as he suffered from a sudden and painful tightening of the muscles in the previous night while he was fishing. Searching process is still ongoing, but there is no hope to find him alive. IOF opened fire at fishing boats despite of the previous coordination by the ICRC and Civil Affairs Department
