In the evening hours on Monday 5 March 2012, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested three Palestinians who were in the access-restricted area (the “security buffer zone”) near the separation fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel east of Rafah. Al Mezan has identified the three as: Khalil Salim Salama As-Sawarka, 18; Tayseer Suliman Mohammed As-Sofi, 20; and Ahmed Nafez Abu Snema, 18. All three are residents of Ash-Shoka village east of Rafah. The families of the detainees had no information about their sons’ disappearance. Al Mezan’s Legal Assistance Unit followed up on the case and was able to inform the families them that the young men are being detained at Ashkelon prison.
