AOHR Condemns Attacks against Protestors in Yemen and Asserts that Resolution Initiatives Must not Provide Immunity for Perpetrators

Cairo 10 April 2011    Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) followed with grave concern the regretful developments that took place in various governorates in Yemen over the past three days.
Further gross and systematic attacks and violations of human rights against unarmed protestors had been carried out.
As a result, 17 persons were killed in Taez alone and another ten persons were killed in the cities of Sanaa, Aden, Al Mansoura, and Dhamar.
  Moreover, more than 70 peaceful protestors were injured by live bullets.
In addition, about 80 protestors were suffocated due to the excessive use of expired tear gas bombs.
Most of the tear gas bombs expired in 1996.
  The AOHR reiterates its condemnation of these systematic crimes.
It also reiterates its demand for international investigations into these crimes.
The AOHR asserts that the crisis in Yemen cannot be expected to end without responding to the national legal demands.
  In this context, the AOHR welcomes the national and regional initiatives to find solutions for the crisis in Yemen.
The AOHR asserts that the resolution initiatives must not grant impunity for those who are responsible for killing unarmed protestors.
