Short Link:
The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) followed with much concern the reported information about the use of force by Hamas Government forces to disperse hundreds of peaceful demonstrators in the Unknown Soldier Square and the Al Kateeba Square.
The demonstration was organized to end the Palestinian internal split and to achieve Palestinian national reconciliation.
The AOHR strongly condemns the use of force by Gaza’s security forces to disperse peaceful protestors, which resulted in the injury of by standing journalists and the assault of protestors.
The AOHR calls on Ismail Haniya, the prime minister of Gaza, to instruct security forces to stop such acts, to respect the right to peaceful assembly, to initiate investigations into the attacks, and to bring perpetrators to justice.
On the other hand, the AOHR welcomes the initiative of Mr.
Ismail Haniya and Mr.
Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian National Authority, to end the divide.
The AOHR asserts that respect of the right to peaceful assembly will contribute to enhancing the possibility of achieving the desired national reconciliation.
