Short Link:
At approximately 10am on Sunday 17 October 2010, the police investigations unit in Gaza called the administration of the Rashad Al Shawa Cultural Center and informed them that a symposium that had been arranged to be held at 3:30pm on Monday 18 October 2010 was banned.
They also informed the administration of the center that the symposium would be organized on the due day; but only after obtaining written license from the police.
According to Al Mezan's field investigations, the symposium was organized by the Liberation Party on 'Islamic Political Work… Basics and Regulations'.
The administration of the center informed Mr.
Ibrahim Al Sharif, a member of the Liberation Party, of this ban.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Al Sharif said that he followed up the situation and was asked to obtain prior license from the police to organize the symposium.
He added that after the Party distributed a press statement and condemned the ban of that symposium, five members of the Party were arrested in the evening hours on Monday.
