Younis Welcomes UN HRC Adoption of Goldstone Report

Al Mezan Centre's director, Mr.
Issam Younis, welcomed today the adoption by the UN Human Rights Council of the Goldstone report in the Council's 12th special session on Friday 16 October 2009.
A Resolution endorsing the report passed with 25 votes in favour, 6 against and 11 abstentions.
Mr.
Younis commended the genuine efforts of the Palestinian National Authority to ensure that a special session is held and the support of State Members to pass the report is provided.
He also paid tribute to all the States who carried out relentless efforts to ensure the adoption of the report; especially Egypt.
Mr.
Younis also hailed the role of the Palestinian and international human rights organizations since the beginning of Fact Finding Mission.
Younis emphasized that the adoption of Goldstone report should be followed by doubled, continuous efforts to ensure that the report is duly referred to the relevant UN organs and to the ICC.
He stressed that the implementation of all recommendations in the Goldstone Report was essential to achieve justice and judicial remedy for the victims.
Mr.
Younis called upon Palestinian parties to take genuine actions to achieve reconciliation and national unity to end the Palestinian internal division and defend the collective and individual rights of the Palestinian people; including the right to self-determination and freedom from occupation.
