Short Link:
The IOF continue their escalating offensive against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in particular the Gaza Strip.
Two Palestinians have been killed, and 5 others wounded during the recent IOF invasion of eastern Al Shaja'ia neighborhood of Gaza City.
In addition, two houses have been destroyed, resulting in the injury of 7 civilians, including 6 children.
Further, the IOF attacked a Reuter's car which contained two cameramen; one of them sustained serious injuries.
Furthermore, the IOF maintain the closure of Rafah Crossing, preventing Palestinian passengers from entering or exiting the Gaza Strip.
According to the Al Mezan field sources, on 26 August at approximately 11:00pm, 25 military vehicles, entered the eastern parts of Al Shaja'ia neighborhood under the cover of helicopters and fighter jets, and stationed themselves in the industrial area of Karni Crossing, as well as opposite the entrance of Al Mansoura Street in Al Shaja'ia.
They subsequently created high piles of sands in the area, under extensive machinegun fire.
On 17 August, at approximately 12:30 am, an IOF scouting jet fired a missile at a Reuter's car driven by Nidal Shna'a, Reuter's cameraman, and Sabah Hamida, cameraman of Dubai Satellite Channel, in Al Shaja'ia.
According to medical reports, the latter sustained critical injuries.
Fifteen minutes later, an IOF scouting jet fired a rocket that targeted a group of youths gathering in Al Mansoura Street, in al Shaja’ia, killing Walid Nasir Al Harazin, 23, and injuring three others.
Tareq Ahmed Helis, 25, was also killed, and 4 others wounded as a result of the continued arbitrary firing by the IOF in the area.
Earlier, on 25 August IOF helicopters shelled the four-storey house of Abd Al-Rahman Salem Thabet, in Tel Al-Za'tar.
The house was entirely destroyed, and was inhabited by 13 individuals.
Four adjacent houses were badly damaged due to the shelling.
As in previous attacks, the IOF informed the Thabet family of the imminent shelling of their houses just minutes before the shelling.
In another attack, the IOF shelled the three-storey house of Ziad Mohammed Tanboura, located near Halima Al Sa'dia School in Jabalia town.
The house was totally destroyed, 3 adjacent houses were badly damaged, and 7 others were wounded including 6 children.
The IOF warned residents to evacuate their house just 10 minutes before the shelling, which is insufficient time for them to collect their belongings and the ownership documents of their house.
Al Mezan strongly condemns the ongoing IOF offensive against Palestinian civilians and highlights the IOF intention to inflict as much loss of life and property as possible.
Al Mezan also confirms that by targeting journalists, the IOF are attempting to terrify them into not performing their duties to expose IOF crimes against Palestinians.
Al Mezan warns that the IOF are systematically committing war crimes in violation of international humanitarian law, notably the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
The Centre also confirms that these measures evidence Israel disrespect towards its legal obligations under the Convention.
Al Mezan reaffirms that the silence of the international community has encouraged Israel to commit war crimes against Palestinians.
It also reiterates its demands that the international community must halt Israeli violations and provide international protection to Palestinian civilians and their property in the OPT.
