On Monday, 24 October 2016, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan) held a training workshop entitled "Promotion and Integration of Human Rights in the Curriculum" for 29 female teachers at Al Bureij Preparatory School for Girls "B".

Nuha Abu Zareefa, lawyer at Al Mezan, opened the workshop by welcoming the teachers and thanking them for their participation in the workshop. She introduced Al Mezan’s work and discussed the fundamental human rights guarantees in international law.

Miss Abu Zareefa explained how to promote a human rights culture in schools to help the students understand their human rights, and how to emphasize the importance of students demanding the respect, protection and fulfilment of their rights. Miss Abu Zareefa urged the teachers to integrate a human rights focus into the curriculum of the school and to assist the students in identifying the rights relevant to the school environment. Miss Abu Zareefa noted the important role that teachers play in shaping Gaza’s youth and hoped that student bodies would become more cohesive and active in groups.

This workshop was conducted in the context of al Mezan's continuing efforts to promote human rights principles and international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.
