Al Mezan Condemns Assaults on Mustafa Al Barghouti and Calls for An Investigation

Unknown men assaulted Dr. Mustafa Al Barghouti, the Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative and Palestinian Legislative Council Member. Dr. Barghouti sustained wounds to his face in the attack. Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the assault and calls for the initiation of a serious investigation.    

 

In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Dr. Barghouti stated that at approximately 10:30pm on Saturday, 24 October 2015, when he was on his way to his home in Al Teera, Ramallah he noticed a sudden movement behind him. He turned around and saw two people; one of them hit him with a sharp object. He sustained wounds to his face, below his left ear. Dr. Bargouti was carried to a nearby hospital where he received eight stitches in his face. It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Al Barghouti is accustomed to traveling home on foot.    

 

Al Mezan Center for Human Rights expresses its regret at the assault of Dr. Mustafa Al Barghouti who is a public Palestinian figure. Al Mezan expresses full solidarity with Dr. Barghouti and welcomes the news of Dr. Barghouti’s safety. Al Mezan strongly condemns the assault and expresses its concern for such an incident. Al Mezan calls on the concerned authority at the Palestinian Authority to open a serious investigation into the incident, with a full disclosure of results, and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
