On Monday 21 May 2012, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights opened a workshop titled “Juvenile Justice under International Conventions and National Law,” held at the Hadaf Association for Media and Training in Khan Younis.
About 42 university graduates and representatives of civil society organizations participated in the workshop.
This workshop constitutes one component of the “Enhancing Legal Aid for Victims of Human Rights Violations in the Gaza Strip” project, implemented by Al Mezan with support from the United Nations Development Program - Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP, Rule of Law Program).
Mr.
Nizar Al Mzaien, technical director of the association, opened the workshop by thanking Al Mezan for accepting the invitation.
He emphasized the importance of holding such workshops in a variety of associations, particularly those located near the borders.
Layal Qdeeh, a project lawyer, welcomed the participants, and then gave a brief description of Al Mezan’s work and its activities aiming to promote human rights culture.
The participants were introduced to various topics related to juvenile justice, the situation of children in conflict with the law, and their protection under national and international laws.
The workshop is part of a wider campaign by Al Mezan to advance principles of child protection through development of the juvenile justice sector.
