Today, Tuesday 23 March 2010 Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights in Jabalia opened a training course entitled 'Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL): Basic Concepts'
Mrs.
Shirin Al Shobaki, Coordinator of the Training and Mass Communication Unit at Al Mezan, opened the course at Al Mezan's office in Jabalia.
She welcomed the 20 participants of the Sharik Youth Forum in the North Gaza District.
She emphasized the importance of this training course and presented the purpose and curriculum of the course.
She also emphasized the importance of human rights and government obligations towards implementing human rights; including the economic, social and cultural rights, the right to work, and the right to adequate food and housing.
Mrs.
Skobaki said that the course aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of young men and women in human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL).
The course consists of 18 hours to be delivered over three days.
The course introduces participants to: the historical and legal framework of IHL and international human rights law (IHRL); the content of IHL and IHRL; the international Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; children’s rights and women rights, the right to protection for women and children under the IHL.
