Polling stations were opened on December 22nd at 7am for the second of three days assigned for the voting of members of police and security apparatus.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights welcomes the substantial participation of voters which had reached 75% of the total electorate by 3pm.
Al Mezan expects that polling stations will be closed by tomorrow morning if levels of participation remain the same.
The total number of and security officals registered to vote is 58,705, among whom 36,091 are in Gaza Strip and 22,614 are in the West Bank.
Voting participation in Gaza reached 73% with 26.
560 voters recorded, and in the West Bank the numbers were 17,972 voters, or 79.
5% of the electorate.
Al Mezan highly appreciates the CEC response to Al Mezan remarks, and the center reports that voting was conducted smoothly.
However, Al Mezan recorded and submitted numerous written and oral remarks to the CEC’s regional Gaza Strip office, which were the following:
Campaign material and posters were hung both outside and inside polling stations.
Voters entered polling stations wearing and holding campaign materials.
Several candidates were present inside polling centers courtyards.
Some voters were allowed inside the voting booth holding their cell phones with cameras, which violates the privacy of the voting process.
Thus, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights highly appreciates the efforts of CEC to maintain the electoral process, and emphasizes that the complaints mentioned above are not related with the outcome of the voting process.
It also asserts to put an end to such violations and respect the Law no.
9 of 2005 as well as CEC regulations and legal procedures.
