At 1pm on Saturday, 5 May 2018, Israeli forces located on the eastern fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel used live ammunition, plastic-coated steel bullets, and tear gas canisters on unarmed Palestinians joining the Great Return March demonstration organized near Malaka area in the east of Al Zaitoun neighborhood in east Gaza city. Two demonstrators were injured—one by live fire and the other by inhalation of tear gas. Doctors at Al Shifa Hospital said the two casualties ranged from light to moderate. The shooting continued until 7pm on the same day.
