Nine-year-old Shahd from Al Sawarhah in the south of the Gaza Strip was a calm and shy child. She was an outstanding student. She was close to her mother and helped her around the house. She was scared during the war. She asked her father to buy her new clothes for the Eid holiday, which he did.
On 29 July 2014, their house was bombarded with missiles from Israeli warplanes. The family did not receive prior warning. The house was destroyed and “we were buried under the rubble,” said her uncle Bashir.
