An Israeli drone attacked the building of the Executive Force of the Hamas-led Ministry of Interior in Rafah. During the funeral of the people killed in the Israeli attack, three people including a girl and a child were killed in internal clashes that took place in different areas in Rafah at 1:00 pm on Thursday, 17 May 2007. The funeral of the Executive Force members coincided with the funeral of Mohammed Abdullah Hassanin, who was killed when unknown armed persons opened fire at him near the Municipality of Rafah. After funeral prayers for the dead people, the crowd split into two funerals who marched in two different directions. The funeral of those killed by the Israeli attack moved towards a side street behind Rafah Municipal Sports Club. The funeral of Mohammed Hassanin moved on the Abu Baker Street. It passed by internal security apparatus buildings.
When the latter funeral approached the offices of the Preventive Security of the Palestinian Authority, unknown persons from the funeral threw a bomb at the building. It then followed by shooting. Violent clashes took place in the place. As a result, Mahmoud Abu M’ammar, 23; sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of the body and 'Aed Abu Zeid, 21, sustained bullet wound in the head and pronounced dead upon arrival to the Gaza European Hospital. Abu M’ammar worked for the PA's Preventive Security while Abu Zeid worked for Executive Force of the Hamas-led Ministry of Interior. Eleven people were injured in these clashes; three of them sustained critical injuries. Abdullah Jarghoun, 12, was among those who sustained critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the evening hours on Saturday, 19 May 2007 as he had sustained bullet wound in the head.
Violent incidents spread throughout Rafah particularly after erecting checkpoints and the spread of armed men affiliated to the Al Qassam Brigade; the armed wing of Hamas Movement, searching civilian cars in Rafah. Several clashes took place through different places in Rafah. The clashes intensified when 30 vehicles the belong to an the Executive Force; a branch of the Preventive Security of the PA, accompanied by masked men from the National Security Forces arrived at the Preventive Security Forces offices. The vehicles came from the Al Mashrou’ area, east Rafah, and moved towards Al Jneena neighborhood. Clashes took place in the vicinity of this neighborhood and in the vicinity of Awni Dheir Street. The clashes and shooting continued until a member of the force was injured. He was carried by a jeep belonging to the Preventive Security.
When they arrived at the hospital, they opened fire at the hospital entrance and at the door of the emergency department. They shouted at doctors and staff, ordering them to make way. They entered the incident and emergency department arousing fear among doctors and medical crews. They ordered civilians to leave the hospital. Many injured persons arrived at the hospital; most of whom with bullet wounds in their knees and ankles; clearly shot deliberately and from a close range. All the injured were affiliated with Fateh movement or/and security forces of the PA.
The Hamas-led Executive Force opened fire at persons who work for the security force of the PA and Fatah activists and their houses in Al Shabora neighborhood in Rafah. Al Mezan identified some of them as: Sabri Mahmoud Al Mzaein, 39; who works for the PA's National Security; and Mohammed Ali Al Zamli, 42; who sustained bullet wound in the leg while he was near Al Nejma crossroads in Al Shaboura.
Fire was also opened at a car that was travelling on Belal Bin Rabah Street in Al Shabora neighborhood. As a result, Fadwa ‘Ayish Younis, 22, sustained bullet wound in the head from behind. The number of the injured people is 25 people until 9:00 pm the same day. During that time, some of the security forces were subject to beat.
