At approximately 6:00 am on Tuesday 6 August 2013, Israeli vessels patrolling Gaza sea opened fire at a distance of six nautical miles towards a Palestinian fishing boat, west of Gaza’s fishermen port, west of Gaza City.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan, fisherman Rajab Khalid Abu Riyala, 26, stated that his brother Khalid, 20, and he were sailing when a big Israeli boat approached their boat and opened direct fire at their nets.
Israeli soldiers verbally abused the fishermen and threatened them to detain them if they did not leave the area.
The Israeli boats then pursued the Palestinian boat and opened fire at it causing damage to it.
