At approximately 9:00 am on Monday 21 May 2012, a number of employees of the Palestinian Land Authority, accompanied by two bulldozers and a force from the Order Maintenance police, arrived at the Al Mawasi area west of Al Aqsa University, in western Khan Younis district.
The bulldozers started to destroy houses, rooms, and crops established on government-owned lands.
Most of the houses are not inhabited.
The demolitions lasted until 1:30 pm on the same day.
After the Land Authority resumed its work the following day, clashes broke out between police and residents of the Al Majaida neighborhood of Al Mawasi.
The confrontation resulted in injury to three members of the police after a number of young men started to throw stones at them, and injury to five residents of the area who sustained bruises from police beatings.
At approximately 2:00 pm, the police left the area and the Land Authority suspended its work.
At approximately 3:00 pm, another police force arrived in Al Majaida and arrested 70 persons.
At approximately 7:00 pm on the same day, the police released most of those detained but kept seven persons in custody.
