At approximately 10:00 am on Sunday 1 April 2012, police in Khan Younis detained Zakariya Salman Abu Daqa, 67, a member of the Central Leadership of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
A police officer arrived at the Front office in Abasan in the east of Khan Younis district and asked Abu Daqa to present himself at the police station, without providing any reason for the summons.
Later, the police detained Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Ismail, 38, also at the Khan Younis police station.
At approximately 5:30 pm on the same day, the police released them after mediation with the Democratic Front.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Abu Daqa stated that the reason for his detention was a demonstration that had recently taken place near the separation fence in the area.
The police claimed that Abu Daqa had organized the demonstration.
