In the early morning hours of Saturday 18 June 2011, a group of owners of destroyed houses closed a number of UNRWA schools that wereprepared for the summer games program annually organized by UNRWAin Khan Younis district.
They shut the schools with chains and locks in protest against UNRWA.

Thirty minutes after this incident, the police arrested Jihad MohammadAbuObeida, 41, the head of the destroyed house owners committee, and detained him at the police station in Khan Younis district.
The police released him at approximately 9am on the same day.
On 15 June 2011, owners of destroyed houses established a tent sit-in inside the UNRWA social services compound.
As a result, work there was suspended.
