For the second consecutive month, the Gaza Government’s internal security apparatus has continued to summon Fatah activists and members in the North Gaza District.
In the evening of Thursday 7 July 2010, this apparatus summoned 44 Fatah activists and members to its office in Jabalia refugee camp.
The summoned persons went to the apparatus office and were given different appointments to appear at the office.
Some of these persons had been summoned several times previously.
Others were ordered to appear at the apparatus office daily.
According to Al Mezan's field investigations, the internal security apparatus stopped using small mobile cells to detain the summoned persons.
In their affidavits to Al Mezan, the summoned persons informed Al Mezan that they had been detained in portable toilets that were used as detention cells.
The cells were very small; two meters long and 80cm wide, and between three and four persons were kept in each cell.
Large numbers of detainees were detained in a hall in front of the interrogation rooms and blindfolded.
During their detention, the security apparatus members did not question or interrogate the detainees.
Nor did they provide food or water to them.
The duration of the detention differed from one detainee to another, as some were detained until the afternoon, other until the evening, or even until midnight in some cases.
