3:30pm on Friday 29 January 2010, the Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine organized a mass festival in the first commemoration of the death of its former Secretary General, Dr.
George Habash.
The festival was organized in an open area opposite An-Nusirat refugee camp’s housing project in the middle-Gaza district.
Thousands of people gathered throughout Gaza Strip to attend the festival.
The festival continued for two hours, after which participants started to leave the area on buses.
While the last group was waiting for its bus to depart, a police force arrived at the area and asked the gathering people to disband.
People argued with the police, asking for reasons why they should leave immediately.
The police force started to beat them with cudgels.
Four persons sustained bruises and other wounds, as a result.
One of them was admitted to Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the nearby Deir Al-Balah town for medical treatment.
