On Wednesday, 11/6/2008, at approximately 10:00pm, Israeli warships, stationed in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Beit Lahia, opened fire toward fishing boats in the area and launched flares. Then the IOF launched a number of artillery shells toward the beach. No causalities were reported but the incident restricted the movement of fishing boats. As a result, the fishermen were prohibited from working, which affected their livelihoods.
