Short Link:
On Sunday 22 June 2014, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights opened a specialized training course entitled, “Women and Children in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law”, at Al Mezan’s office in Jabaliya.
Approximately 25 newly graduated students along with volunteers from local organizations in northern Gaza participated in the course.
Hussein Hammad, Al Mezan’s field worker in the North Gaza district, opened the course by welcoming the participants.
He expressed his hope that the participants would pass the newly acquired knowledge on to their colleagues.
The course consists of 15 training hours to be delivered over three days.
The participants are to be introduced to human rights through the International Bill of Human Rights, and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and its principles by learning about the protection mechanisms of women and children in armed conflict, the Conventionon the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the 1612 Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms concerning the violations of child rights in situations of armed conflict.
A team of specialized trainers from Al Mezan, along with expert guest trainers, presented the course material.
This training course is part of Al Mezan’s core program, which aims to enhance human rights and the principles of IHL regarding women and children in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
This is a crucial awareness raising activity in the oPt, where Palestinians are living under continuing Israeli military occupation and human rights violations against women and children are a regular occurrence.
