At approximately 9:40 am today, Tuesday April 29, 2003, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed Nidal Muhammad Udeh Salameh from Khan Younis refugee camp while he was driving to his work near the College of Science and Technology.
Eyewitnesses reported to Al Mezan that Israeli helicopter gunship fired two missiles on Salameh’s car, who is known for his affiliation with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Medical sources in Khan Younis confirmed Salameh’s death.
It should be mentioned that Salameh is a father to two children.
In addition, 39-year-old Awni Muhammad Sarhan, who was accidentally in the area was sustained critical wounds due to the explosions.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns this Israeli crime which constitutes part of Israel’s continued aggression against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).
The Center is gravely concerned by the IOF’s targeting of Palestinian civilians by air force, which cause severe loss in life and property.
Under the international law and the humanitarian law extra judicial killings constitute war crimes necessitating searching for their perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
As such, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights calls the international community to:
End the state of silence and fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities towards the Palestinian civilians in the OPT.
It is the responsibility of the international community to end Israel’s crimes.
Provide urgent international protection for the Palestinian civilians in the OPT.
Bring the Israeli war criminals who are responsible for ordering and perpetrating extra judicial killings to justice under.
