Under increasing threats of invading the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have perpetrated a new extra-judicial killing in Gaza City.
Supported by high political officials in the Israeli Government, the IOF have been carrying out systematic assassination of Palestinians.
At approximately 3:15 pm on Monday, 1 September 2003, Israeli helicopters bombarded a civilian car near Al Wihda Street in Gaza City.
As a result, 33-year-old Khadir Al Husari was killed and 17 others were wounded.
Missiles also destroyed another car and caused severe damage to the nearby buildings.
This attack comes in a context of Israel’s policy of systematic extra-judicial killings, with the pretext that only ‘wanted persons’ are being killed.
The IOF killed 42 Palestinians and wounded about 200 in similar attacks since 10 June 2003, in the Gaza Strip alone It should be mentioned that the IOF have been putting troops on standby around the Gaza Strip and escalating threats of invading the strip.
Moreover, the Israeli forces have continued to impose strict restrictions on the movement of people and goods in Gaza.
Beit Hanoun/Erez and Sofa crossing points were closed completely, and the Karni and Rafah crossing points partially.
In addition, the Abu Holly road is frequently closed, prohibiting movement between the north and south of the strip.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns Israel’s continued crimes against Palestinians in the OPT and emphasizes that Israel’s performance is partially prompted by the silence of the international community.
The Center appeals for the international community to fulfill its obligations and put an end to Israel’s grave breaches of the International Law and the International Humanitarian Law.
Al Mezan is gravely concerned by these crimes, and by the increasing threats of the IOF of invading the Gaza Strip, which implies outrageous violations of civilian’s human rights.
