Clashes broke out on April 22nd between Fatah and Hamas supporters at Al Azhar University, Islamic University, and the Institute for Science and Technology, damaging buildings and injuring around 35 civilians, two of whom are in critical medical condition.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, Hamas and Fatah supporters clashed at approximately 12.
30pm on April 22nd.
Students threw stones at University buildings, damaged offices and classrooms and threw furniture out of windows, before the clash turned into armed confrontations.
Al Azhar and Islamic universities consequently suspended classes for three days.
The clashes wounded 25, and 9 suffered from grenade wounds.
A similar incident took place between Al Azhar and Islamic University students in 2000.

15pm, Fatah and Hamas supporters clashed in the Institute for Science and Technology Faculty in Khan Younis, although no casualties were reported.
The Institute suspended classes for two days.
On the same day at approximately 8pm, armed groups conducted a protest march from Sheikh Radwan neighborhood to the PLC in the Gaza City.
They threw grenades and fired into the air, preventing journalists from filming or reporting on the march; they even rebuked those journalists taking photos.

The university suspended classes for three days in both Khan Younis campuses.
On the same day at approximately 7.
30pm, internal clashes continued when a group of armed persons set fire to a house owned by Ali Qattoush, 56, in eastern Al Maghazi; the house was partially damaged.
The armed persons remained in the area until police officials arrived at the scene; the perpetrators left the area and none were arrested.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the incidents in Palestinian universities in Gaza City and Khan Younis and calls on the PNA to open an investigation and punish those guilty of damaging public properties.
