13 June 2006
The IOF have extra-judicially killed 11 Palestinians and injured 42 others in an assassination crime, the latest in a string of extrajudicial actions.
The IOF clearly intended to kill as many Palestinians as possible.
Israeli military jets fired twice at a car, although paramedics and people had gathered around it after the first to help with casualties.
As a result, tens of people were killed and injured.
Based on Al Mezan investigations, on June 13 at approximately 11.
45am, Israeli military jets fired a missile at a yellow Volkswagen at Salah Il Din Street, killing three Palestinians: Hamouda Al wadiayya, 38, Ramez Al Mbayed, 27, Shawqi Al Siqeli, 42.
Upon hearing the explosion, citizens and paramedics rushed to the location to help the wounded.
Three minutes later, the IOF fired on the same car again, killing 7 Palestinians, including 4 paramedics, and injuring 42 civilians; 6 remain in critical condition, medical sources reported.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns this crime which is the latest in a string of extrajudicial IOF actions that constitute a clear example of premeditated murder against Palestinian civilians including children.
Al Mezan is highly concerned with the ongoing IOF offensive; it condemns the silence of the international community over such crimes and the support to IOF claims that mislead international opinion.
The IOF has denied responsibility for killing seven family members on Beit Lahia beach, claims which are totally rejected and unjustifiable according to Al Mezan investigations based on the victims' testimonies, eyewitnesses and experts in ammunition and medics.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounces frequent IOF attempts to deny responsibility over killing Palestinians, especially children, while they officially carry out extrajudicial premeditated murder without legal prosecution.
Al Mezan reconfirms that international law bans all types of extrajudicial killings regardless of the reasons behind them; assassinations are war crimes according to international law and specifically the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Further, war crimes constitute a grave violation of human rights treaties, most notably the International Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Al Mezan hereby reiterates that the international community, mostly the High Contracting Parties to Geneva Convention which are requested to respect the convention under any circumstances, must immediately intervene to put an end to Israeli war crimes and provide protection to Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) in the face of increasing war crimes.
Al Mezan believes that the intervention of the international community constitutes a legal and ethical obligation at a time where the IOF are intensifying both the siege on the Gaza Strip and their offensive, taking advantage of the silence of the international community which is leading to a deterioration of the human rights situation and is exposing the entire Palestinian society to a human disaster.
