Israeli Gunboats Target Fishermen, Arrest Five, and Confiscate their Boat Northwest Gaza

At approximately 11:00 am on Monday, 1 June 2015, Israeli gunboats opened fire at a Palestinian boat in the sea west of the As-Sudaniya area northwest of Gaza district. According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, Israeli gunboat surrounded a boat carrying five fishermen for about an hour, then ordered them to take off their clothes and swim toward the Israeli gunboat. Then, the Israeli forces arrested the fishermen and confiscated their boat. They were taken to an unknown distination. 

Al Mezan identified their names as follows:

 

  1. Adel Saed Mohammed Abu Ryala, 42 (owner of the boat);
  2. Yousif Adel Saed Abu Ryala, 19;
  3. Mohammed Ibrahim Naem An-Najjar, 33;
  4. His brother Rami, 28; and
  5. Ibrahim Hani Ibrahim An-Najjar, 14.

All of them are residents of Al Shate’ refugee camp.
