AOHR Calls for Investigating Attacks against Protestors in Tahreer Square

Cairo 10 April 2011   The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) expresses its grave concern by the regretful incidents that took place at the Tahreer Square in Cairo, Egypt in the early morning Saturday 9 April 2011.
According to official sources, one person was killed and 71 persons were injured as a result of the attacks.
  The AOHR asserts that the formal response to these regretful incidents does not provide satisfactory answers; however, it raises more questions about the reality and the reasons of these attacks.
  The AOHR calls on the authorities to promptly initiate independent legal investigations into these incidents, to disclose the findings of these investigations to the public, and to ensure accountability for those who are responsible for the violence.
  The AOHR asserts that the ambiguity concerning these incidents will affect the developments of events in this crucial transitional phase.
These incidents are coinciding with the notable slowness in taking effective measures in dissolving the former regime, as the dismissed national council, governors, municipal and local councils, public sector, and governmental universities are still working.
