AOHR Calls for the Release of Opposition Detainees in Bahrain and Immediately Initiate Investigation into the Killing of More Victims

The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) followed with great concern the regretful development in Al Bahrain, particularly the clash between security forces and protestors which lead to the killing of four persons yesterday.
    The semi-confirmed news about the arrest of four opposition leaders by security authorities, which came yesterday after the decision to impose “emergency” status for three months, has increased the concerns of the AOHR.
    The AOHR received a letter from the Embassy of Bahrain in Cairo, explaining the Bahraini position on the regretful developments in Bahrain.
Regardless of the AOHR welcoming this step which reflects the Bahraini authorities’ interest in responding to public opinion, the AOHR asserts the importance of initiating serious investigations into the violent acts and killings.
    The AOHR reminds the Bahraini authorities of their legal, constitutional, and international human rights principles obligations which hold the authorities responsible to bring those who prove to be involved in these violations to justice.
     The AOHR reiterates its call on the Bahraini Government and the opposition to return to the dialogue table and to reach a national and comprehensive agreement that goes in line with the legitimate demands for reform.
